A doctor in the United Kingdom loses his job for asking a patient to remove her niqab.

The doctor asked her to remove her niqab, saying that the patient did not speak English well and that he was having difficulty understanding her during the consultation. The husband lodged a complaint of racism.

A doctor in the United Kingdom has been struck off for asking a woman wearing a niqab to remove it because he could not understand her. The case dates back to 2018, when the doctor asked her on several occasions to uncover her face because he was having difficulty understanding her and needed to see her mouth movements to communicate more effectively.

The Daily Mail explains that, When his husband found out, he filed a formal complaint of racial discrimination.. Although the doctor initially defended his actions on communication grounds, The subsequent investigation by the health service concluded that the patient spoke English fluently. and that the professional had acted inappropriately. The outcome of the incident is that the doctor has lost his accreditation to practise in the United Kingdom.

The husband wanted to speak to the doctor to ask for an explanation.

After the incident, the patient's husband tried to speak to the doctor to ask for an explanation of the treatment he had received during the consultation, but the doctor refused to see him, later claiming that he considered him “aggressive and intimidating.”.

In his response, the doctor justified his actions by stating that the patient “did not speak English well” and that he had difficulty understanding her, which was why he had asked for the niqab to be removed so he could see her mouth movements. However, the court concluded that this claim was untrue and that the patient spoke English fluently, which called the professional's credibility into question and resulted in the final sanction of suspension of his licence to practise.
