A veteran German teacher in Vienna has lost his job after confronting the religious demands and accusations of racism from a student of Turkish origin. The teacher has more than sixteen years' teaching experience in courses run by the Austrian Employment Service (AMS). According to what he told the Austrian newspaper Today, The conflict began when the student requested a specific room for prayer. and it escalated until it ended with a complaint of Islamophobia and racism against the teacher.

According to the professor's account, Today, the problems began from the very first contact with the student, who had been in Austria for only six months. He asked her where he could pray and where the prayer room was. After consulting his superior, The teacher told him that he could pray in the same classroom., but who did not have an exclusive space. The woman's response, as the professor recalls, it was «How racist is Austria? Where is your democracy? Where is religious freedom? I am a lawyer; I will report the company.».

She fails the exam and denounces the teacher for Islamophobia.

The conflict continued when The teacher considered that the student did not have sufficient German to sit the official A2 exam.. Before enrolling her, he gave her an internal test which she failed and informed the course leader that she was far below the required level and that letting her sit the exam would be a waste of the test fee.

Despite this, He claims that a colleague pressured him to enrol her.. Finally, the student sat the official exam and failed it as well. When the woman learned that the teacher had initially opposed her being entered for the exam, He sent a four-page complaint to the centre's equality officers accusing it of Islamophobia and racism.. According to K., the consequence was direct: «My boss sacked me, even though I refuted each and every one of the accusations and even Everything had the rest of the course as witnesses.».

The centre says it does not tolerate religious extremism.

The training centre has rejected the professor's accusations and denies that extremist behaviour is tolerated in their courses, discriminatory or situations that could jeopardise safety. In a statement, it maintains that its educational programmes are governed by the constitutional principles of equality and respect, regardless of the pupils' religion or beliefs.

The management, however, has not publicly commented on the details of the case nor explained whether the student's complaint was the specific reason for the teacher's departure. When Today He asked for an explanation about the dismissal, but the company merely pointed out that it does not comment on individual employment cases.
