On 13 September 2025, in a sermon for young people in Albany (Australia), held at the Hume Islamic Youth Centre and broadcast on the YouTube channel as part of a series dedicated to the family, An Islamic scholar warned that if the food burns, a woman cannot say “it's not my fault”, because that is tantamount to disobeying the Prophet.

This sermon is part of a series on the family, but sIt focuses on blaming women for domestic issues. and to justify it with religious references. The message, aimed at young Muslims, leaves little room for shared responsibility and reinforces a family model in which The woman is the only one responsible for what happens in the kitchen and around the home.

At another point in the sermon, the speaker solemnly recalls: «The Prophet said: ‘Do not leave the fire lit when you leave the house. Extinguish it before you go.’» According to him, fire is an enemy and women are responsible for controlling it. He also added that, although there is now technology to make household chores easier, this is no reason to relax. «Allah has given women the right to use this technology, but a single mistake with gas or electricity can burn you and your home.«», he said.

The preacher used the figure of the Prophet Muhammad to establish a domestic code of conduct. where responsibility falls exclusively on women.

Some women I know put the food on the hob. The food needs an hour. And they say, “In that hour I'll go and pick up the children from school.”
They leave the food on the fire, go out to pick up the children and are absolutely convinced they'll be back in half an hour. But then they find the road blocked. There's an accident. They spend half an hour at one point. Then Aunt Tesan arrives. And that's two hours already. The fire has gone out, the food has burnt and the house smells awful.
They say, “It's not my fault; it just happened that way.” No, it is your fault. Because the Prophet said, «Do not leave the fire lit and leave the house.»
