By the end of 2025 the medium Jewish approach He denounced a project called BarcelonaZ, which caused serious alarm both within and outside Catalonia. The project consisted of a public, interactive and collaborative map identifying Jewish businesses, Jewish schools, Israeli companies and multinationals operating in Israel in Catalonia.a. After the complaints, the GoGoCarto platform removed the project from its website for being dangerous and discriminatory.
Among the marked spaces They included kosher shops, service companies, financial institutions and Jewish schools, such as the Hatikva College in Barcelona, described on the map as a centre that “indoctrinates children and adolescents with Zionist values”. The project encouraged users“ participation by inviting them to add new ”Zionist" establishments and to share the map.
The origin of the BarcelonaZ project has come to light following an investigation by NGO Monitor. This Jerusalem-based organisation specialises in analysing the role of NGOs in political conflicts. The investigation shows that behind the promotion of the map are two specific Catalan entities that acted as amplifiers and legitimisers of the project.
Who promoted BarcelonaZ?
According to NGO Monitor, the public dissemination of the BarcelonaZ project was neither spontaneous nor marginal. On 6 October 2025, Engineers Without Borders – Catalonia and Universities with Palestine jointly published on social media a message explicitly supporting the map., encouraging “collaboration and dissemination”. Although it was presented as an “independent” project driven by third parties, publicly promoting it served to publicise a tool that labelled Jewish institutions, educational centres and businesses under a single ideological label. Without this support, BarcelonaZ would have struggled to gain visibility and normalisation in the Catalan public sphere.
