Amb la nova norma, ni tan sols es podrà entrar a una escola o qualsevol pública a fer tràmits amb una mascareta.

El ministre de laïcitat, Jean-François Roberge, justifica la prohbició a l’educació perquè «En el sistema educatiu, és normal, necessari i obvi que ens hem de veure les cares, tant per a l’alumne com per al professor, o durant el treball en equip», va dir Roberge. «És la base de la comunicació humana. Això és tot.»

En aquest context, Roberge també va fer referència explícita a la pandèmia per descartar excepcions: «Sé que va ser així durant la pandèmia, però això ja ha passat». Amb aquesta afirmació, el govern deixa clar que la norma no es limita a símbols religiosos, sinó que estableix un principi general de visibilitat del rostre dins del sistema públic.

Següent objectiu: les escoles privades

Fins ara, les mesures impulsades pel ministre de laïcitat, Jean-François Roberge, s’han centrat principalment en el sector educatiu públic i només ha tocat al sector privat de les escoles bressol. En nom del govern, ja ha anunciat que el següent pas serà estendre aquestes restriccions a tot el sector privat subvencionat, on es concentren bona part dels centres amb identitat religiosa cristiana, jueva o musulmana. La idea és treballar per fer efectives les mesures a partir del curs vinent.

Per mantenir els ajuts públics, els centres hauran d’acceptar una transformació profunda que deixarà la religió «als marges de la institució», en paraules textuals del ministre. De moment, només es sap que la idea és que no es permetran activitats religioses durant l’horari lectiu ni seleccionar alumnes o personal en funció de les seves creences. L’objectiu declarat és que qualsevol activitat religiosa s’hagi de fer com a extraescolar i amb caràcter voluntari. A més, el professorat i els treballadors no podran portar símbols religiosos visibles, com ja passa al sector públic. En la pràctica, això obliga les escoles a buidar de contingut religiós el seu dia a dia si volen continuar dins del sistema públic.

Davant les preguntes sobre si això suposa, de facto, el final de les escoles religioses subvencionades, Roberge va ser explícit: podran continuar existint, però «hauran de fer-ho sense finançament estatal». L’ambigüitat del que ha explicar el ministre ha deixat el sector amb seriosos dubtes sobre fins a quin punt les escoles podran mantenir una missió religiosa coherent sense perdre el finançament.
