La primera mesquita amb minaret a Catalunya en 500 anys és a Seròs (Lleida)

La nova mesquita de Seròs (governat per Junts per Catalunya) incorpora un minaret d’estil marroquí. És el primer que s’alça a Catalunya des de l’expulsió dels musulmans al segle XVI.

Seròs és un municipi situat a la comarca del Segrià, al Baix Segre, al nord-oest de Catalunya. Té uns 1.800 habitants, dels quals uns 500 són estrangers, principalment procedents del Marroc. Segons l’Idescat, uns 200 no entenen el català. Tal com explica l’Agencia Islámica de Noticias, aquesta localitat ha estat escenari d’un fet inèdit a Catalunya en els darrers cinc segles: la construcció d’una mesquita amb minaret, el primer que s’alça al territori català des de l’edat mitjana.

La presència musulmana a aquesta regió no és nova. Entre els segles VIII i XV la zona formava part d’al-Àndalus, el domini musulmà a la península Ibèrica. Moltes d’aquestes poblacions comptaven amb mesquites, minarets i una estructura social i urbana marcada per la cultura islàmica. Aquesta convivència es va trencar progressivament a partir del procés de la Reconquesta cristiana i, de manera definitiva, amb l’expulsió dels moriscos decretada pel rei Felip III l’any 1609.

Minaret estil marroquí al Segrià

Durant més de 500 anys, els minarets van desaparèixer completament de Catalunya. Serós es va quedar sense musulmans a principi del segle XVI i els cristians van fer servir la mesquita pel seu culte fins que van construir l’església a finals del segle XVIII. Tanmateix, en les darreres dècades, Seròs ha vist com una nova comunitat musulmana —formats majoritàriament per famílies vingudes del Marroc— s’ha establert al municipi.

La nova mesquita vol donar servei a una comunitat musulmana en constant creixement. El temple substitueix l’antiga mesquita del carrer Rosari que ja no tenia prou capacitat per a tots els fidels. El mateix està passant a tots els pobles del voltant però només Serós ha incorporat un element arquitectònic de gran càrrega simbòlica: un minaret d’estil marroquí, de base quadrada, culminat amb una esfera decorativa vermella anomenada yamur, que segons la tradició islàmica protegeix l’edifici sagrat.

Zona per homes i per dones

L’interior de la mesquita està organitzat en dues plantes: la planta baixa, amb capacitat per a un centenar de fidels, està reservada als homes, mentre que la planta superior està destinada a les dones. Les entrades principals es troben al carrer de la Costa i al del Castell, amb una porta de forja decorada amb estrelles mudèjars de vuit puntes.

Tot i que el minaret és l’element més visible i distintiu de la mesquita, no podrà ser utilitzat per emetre la crida a l’oració (adhan). Segons ha explicat l’alcalde de Seròs, Josep Antoni Romia (de Junts), la normativa municipal sobre civisme i emissions acústiques prohibeix l’ús de megafonia o cants religiosos en espais exteriors.
