The first Berlin Conflict and Violence Barometer offers data showing that A huge proportion of Muslim adolescents believe that religion is not a private matter but an authority that must prevail even within the classroom.. The study was commissioned by the Berlin Senate from the Allensbach Institute of Public Opinion Research. to understand the extent of violence, conflicts and social pressures in the public schools of the German capital. The research is based on the responses of 14,115 students and 2,579 teachers and educational professionals, collected between November 2025 and January 2026.
The most alarming figure appears among ninth-grade Muslim students, aged around 14 or 15: 41.% states that religious rules must take precedence over the school's rules.. It is not a theoretical discussion between adults, nor a mosque debate. That's what adolescents educated in European state schools already think..
The pressure of Islam is already part of school life.
The survey doesn't appear out of nowhere. It comes after years of reports and allegations of Teachers warn of pressure from radical Islam in German schools. Cases have been described in Berlin. Students intimidated into following religious rules, marginalised liberal Muslims, girls monitored for the clothes they wear, insults against gay teachers and demands to separate boys and girls.. In Essen, even They tried to impose a gender-segregated graduation. and some teachers have denounced that there are students who they describe as forbidden some girls' clothes, painted nails, swimming or certain school activities.
Until now, these warnings could be presented as isolated episodes. The first Berlin Conflict and Violence Barometer puts figures to it and confirms that religious pressure is now part of the everyday reality in some state schools.. Some key data are:
- The 41 % of the Muslim students He wants religious rules to take precedence over the school's rules.
- The 16 % of the Muslims claims that his Religion was a cause of violence..
- The 26 % All the students state that there is pressure for homosexual or trans students not to publicly display their status.
- The 28 % There are pressures on how men and women should behave.
- The 11 % detects pressure to comply with religious rules on clothing, food or Muslim prayer.
- The 56 % of the teaching staff considers that violence is a big or very big problem at its centre.
The Berlin school survey is not a small anecdotal sample: it is based on 14,115 students i 2,579 teachers and education professionals from Berlin's state schools. This lends institutional weight to allegations that until now have often been presented as isolated cases.
They are no longer isolated cases.
For years, teachers and headteachers in German schools have denounced the mini-Islamists, the intimidation of liberal Muslim pupils, demands about dress, rejection of homosexuality and attempts to separate boys and girls. The Berlin Barometer does not resolve all the questions but confirms that these conflicts exist and affect a significant proportion of pupils.
The central figure is hard to ignore: among ninth-grade Muslim students, 41 per cent prefer religious rules to those of the school, while only 40 per cent defend the priority of the school's rules. Twenty per cent do not express a view. The result is that half the group miss having sharia at school.. Berlin no longer faces only isolated incidents, but a fracture over which authority should prevail within the state school.
