El meu cos, la meva llibertat? L’Imam Zaid Shakir respon a Oakland des de l’islam

Zaid Shakir va recordar que “ens hem d’aferrar a les bases” de la religió, i que l’islam proporciona un sistema complet de moralitat que no depèn d’improvisacions ni de valors canviants.

En un sermó pronunciat a Oakland (Estats Units) , l’Imam Zaid Shakir va qüestionar la validesa de proclames com “El meu cos, la meva llibertat”, habituals en moviments feministes i de defensa de l’autonomia individual.

Aquesta postura situa la llibertat personal en un pla subordinat, on la voluntat divina preval per sobre de qualsevol decisió individual. Des d’una perspectiva crítica, això planteja interrogants sobre l’espai que l’islam, tal com l’interpreta Shakir, deixa a l’autonomia dels creients —i especialment de les dones, ja que l’eslògan ha estat central en la lluita pels drets reproductius i corporals.

La seva tesi reforça la idea que el cos no pertany a la persona mateixa, sinó a Allah. Per exemplificar-ho, va mencionar els tatuatges, els pírcings o els pentinats: pràctiques que, segons ell, no es poden justificar sota el principi d’“elecció personal”.

La crítica a aquest enfocament assenyala que negar el principi d’elecció personal pot xocar frontalment amb valors moderns com la llibertat individual, el dret a decidir sobre el propi cos i la separació entre religió i àmbit privat.

Qui és Zaid Shakir

Zaid Shakir (Berkeley, Califòrnia, 1956) és un dels estudiosos musulmans més influents a Occident. Cofundador i professor sènior del Zaytuna College (Berkeley), també va impulsar la Lighthouse Mosque d’Oakland, on va pronunciar aquest sermó.

El Zaytuna College, fundat el 2009 a Berkeley (Califòrnia), és el primer col·legi universitari acreditat dels Estats Units dedicat als estudis islàmics. La institució ofereix una formació acadèmica que combina les ciències religioses tradicionals amb disciplines modernes, amb l’objectiu de preparar els estudiants per exercir lideratge dins de la comunitat musulmana nord-americana. Entre els seus objectius principals hi ha el de formar líders del futur, capaços de respondre als reptes socials i culturals actuals sense perdre el vincle amb les fonts clàssiques de l’islam.

Shakir es va convertitra l’islam el 1977 mentre servia a la Força Aèria dels EUA, va estudiar Relacions Internacionals i Ciència Política abans de dedicar-se a la formació islàmica a Egipte, Síria i el Marroc. El seu treball combina sensibilitat per les qüestions racials i socials amb un enfocament doctrinal rigorós.
