Texas proclama el ‘Dia del Pakistan’ per ‘celebrar la diversitat‘

El dia escollit és el de la Declaració de Lahore que va ser l’inici del règim religiós i l’extermini de totes les minories.

Nombrosos mitjans nordamericans expliquen que la Cambra de Representants de Texas va declarar el 23 de març com a Pakistan Day en aquest estat nord-americà. La proposta, liderada pel representant Suleman Lalani, subratlla l’aportació de la comunitat pakistanesa als valors de “diversitat, inclusió, educació i prosperitat” i reconeix els més de 80.000 ciutadans d’origen pakistanès que viuen a Texas.

Segons la resolució, es tracta d’una oportunitat per reconèixer “les contribucions socials, religioses, lingüístiques i econòmiques” dels immigrants pakistanesos i celebrar els llaços culturals entre ambdós territoris.

Què va passar el 23 de març de 1940

El Pakistan Day recorda l’anomenada Resolució de Lahore, aprovada el 1940 per la Lliga Musulmana. Aquesta resolució va ser la base ideològica de la partició de l’Índia britànica i la fundació del Pakistan el 1947.

Aquest fet històric va comportar no només la creació d’un estat islàmic, sinó també un dels episodis més sagnants del segle XX: milers d’hindús, sikhs i altres minories van ser assassinats en pogroms organitzats, especialment durant el conegut Direct Action Day impulsat per la Lliga Musulmana el 1946. A Calcuta, per exemple, es calcula que més de 4.000 hindús van morir en només uns dies.

Celebració controvertida

Els opositors a la resolució texana denuncien la hipocresia de celebrar “la diversitat” a través d’una commemoració que en el seu origen representa la creació d’un estat religiós mitjançant la violència sectària.

També es recorda que l’actual Pakistan continua perseguint minories religioses com els cristians, els hindús i els xiïtes. Les mateixes elits islamistes que reclamen “tolerància” i “pluralisme” a Occident no diuen res del que passa al Pakistan. Aquesta doble vara de mesurar genera malestar entre sectors nord-americans que veuen la resolució com una forma d’agenollar-se davant l’islamisme polític sota el paraigua de la inclusió.

Votació dividida

Tot i que la resolució va ser aprovada, cinc representants texans van votar-hi en contra. Un d’ells, Joanne Shofner, va justificar el seu vot negatiu amb una frase clara: “Dono suport als cristians perseguits del Pakistan.”
