Explain The Sunday Journal When he did not get what they wanted, they repeatedly hit him on the head and face and threw an object at him which opened two deep wounds on his forehead.

The firefighters evacuated the man to Poissy Hospital, where doctors sutured his wounds. The 49-year-old driver was able to return home that same night., but he was very affected and in a state of shock. The next day he decided to leave the service by exercising his right to withdraw, a legal mechanism that allows a worker to stop work in the face of a serious and imminent danger.

The two attackers fled on foot after the assault and tried to escape through a nearby park. Several police patrols launched a search and located them a few hours later. However, the police have not identified the youths' ethnic origin. Eyewitnesses say they looked North African.

Investigators accuse them of having committed a serious offence against a public service worker. They are now in custody and await a court appearance. According to police sources cited by the local press, both are residents of the Val-d'Oise department and had no prior criminal record.

Indignation and immediate strike

The news of the assault provoked outrage among his colleagues. Several drivers on the Keolis network immediately walked off the job, sparking a spontaneous strike that paralysed several bus routes in the Yvelines. Thousands of passengers found their journeys suspended or severely disrupted for hours.

The unions are calling for a permanent police presence on board vehicles, safer cabs and tougher penalties for attackers. They also recall the case of Philippe Monguillot, a driver from Bayonne who died in 2020 after a similar assault, and warn that without profound changes the risk will remain high for all public transport workers.
