Allah Akbar stabbing in Marseille ends with man shot dead

A Tunisian man stabbed five people until the police killed him. One of the injured is in a critical condition. The police do not know the motive.

On 2 September a Tunisian man decided to stab people when he was evicted from a hotel for non-payment. He first attacked his roommate and also wounded the hotel manager and his son. He then attempted to attack customers at a nearby establishment and several passers-by. When he had five of them, the police opened fire and killed him.

They tried to stop him with a Taser but it failed. He was eventually shot dead after charging at the officers., shouting «Allah akbar».

The individual held a residence permit, had a police record and had been the subject of occasional monitoring by the security services for aggressive behaviour, but was not flagged for radicalisation. According to the prosecution, the case may be more a private dispute and psychiatric problems than a terrorist act, although the investigation remains open.

In the 20-second video posted on X, you can hear shouts of "Allahu Akbar" and three plainclothes officers opening fire.
