He's not the first Muslim driver to get up to his antics.
In 2019, a young woman was the victim of a discriminatory act when a bus driver refused to open the doors of the bus for her and her friend. The reason, according to the account of her father – the writer Kamel Bencheikh – was that lThe girls were wearing short skirts, which, according to the driver (identified as a practising Muslim), was offensive.
In 2022, a driver on the Aix-Marseille line He converted his bus into a space for religious preaching.. For about forty minutes, he broadcast verses from the Qur'an over the public address system, despite the passengers“ protests. Far from apologising, he replied to an Algerian pensioner who had reproached him for his lack of respect: "It's my bus! I do as I please. If you're not happy, get off.”
In the face of media coverage and widespread outrage, the RATP company acted swiftly to identify the driver, suspend him from his duties and initiate disciplinary proceedings. Company sources emphasise that this is unacceptable behaviour and contrary to the values of respect and equality they promote.
