The Council of Ibiza has withdrawn guardianship from several Muslim families on the island after their underage daughters rebelled against the impositions they were subjected to at home. This was acknowledged by the Councillor for Social Welfare, Carolina Escandell, who He has admitted that the Children's Services has for some time been monitoring Muslim families who impose extreme religious rules on their daughters.. El Periódico de Ibiza explains that Escandell has emphasised, however, that the institution has no evidence that this is a widespread phenomenon among Muslims in Ibiza, and has insisted that, in any event, the Council has an obligation to protect these minors.

The councillor explained that the usual procedure is not to remove custody directly, but first to apply family intervention programmes. The aim is to help families find a balance that would allow the girls to reconcile the life they lead at school and with their friends with the traditions of home. The problem, Escandell has pointed out, tends to worsen upon reaching adolescence, when family demands intensify and the clash between the two realities becomes unsustainable.

Born or raised in Ibiza but living as if in seventh-century Arabia.

The girls who go to school by day and return to another century by night were born in Ibiza or have lived there since they were very young. They have attended the same schools, made the same friends and They have absorbed the same values as any other teenage girl from Ibiza.. But as soon as you cross the threshold of the house, everything changes and It's as if they were in seventh-century Arabia.. They are imposed restrictions that run counter to the freedom they experience every day outside the home, and which in many cases violate their most fundamental rights as minors. It is the same situation that In Barcelona, the organisation PerElles denounces it without anyone intervening. and not even the people responsible themselves dare to say that the cause is a vision of Islam that is taking root in our society.

The minister has also recalled that whoever arrives in Spain, by whatever means, A society that believes in equality must understand and adapt to a democratic society. An equality that, for these girls, begins with being able to decide who they want to be.
