A group of legal immigrants has demonstrated in north London to denounce the impact that illegal immigration has on their lives. They did so under the auspices of the collective. Legal Immigrants for Sovereignty, a movement that has arisen simultaneously in the United Kingdom, the United States and other European countries. The gathering has been covered by the British media outlet Spiked, in this report from 30 July 2025.

The participants are Men and women of African, Latin American and Asian origin who have regularised their status through legal processes.. Now, they say they feel betrayed by authorities who allow massive illegal entries while silencing the voices of those who have followed the rules.

«Stop calling us the far right»

One of the most visible placards during the event proclaims: «Stop calling us the far right, protect women and children.». With this message, the participants reject the label often used to discredit any criticism of migration policy.

«When we say that order and borders are necessary, we are not speaking out of hatred. We are speaking from experience.», one of the panellists of Ethiopian origin has stated. Other participants have denounced that The most vulnerable communities are the first to suffer the consequences of illegal immigration., especially women and children.

«They have silenced us for too long.»

Many of those present have coincided in denouncing that Any attempt to talk about these topics is labelled racist or far-right., even when it comes from people born outside Europe. «EThey've silenced us for far too long. I come from Vietnam, and I respect this country. I work here, I pay taxes here, and my children study here. But what's happening with illegal immigration is unsustainable: nobody is in control of anything, and we suffer the consequences every day.«, he declared to the applause of the audience.

A man of Syrian origin explained that it took him three years to obtain refugee status and that he achieved it by providing evidence, undergoing interviews and navigating complex procedures.«Now I see how people who enter illegally across the Manx border are given accommodation, assistance and immediate legal cover. And if I say that this isn't fair, they call me Islamophobic. It's not Islamophobia. It's common sense.»

For many of the attendees, silence has been imposed for fear of being singled out, rejected or expelled from public debate.«There is an atmosphere of fear. We have reached a point where only those who say exactly what the government or the media want to hear are allowed to speak. »The rest of us are dangerous, even though we have complied with all the rules," declared a Venezuelan woman, visibly moved.

An uncomfortable voice for the official discourse

The organisers have assured that they do not intend to confront anyone, but rather to open a necessary debate about the limits of solidarity, legality and integration.«We are not racists. We are not fascists. We are legal immigrants who want respect.«", a woman with a firm voice summarised in front of the cameras.

The movement has pledged to continue organising gatherings across Europe and to make its voice heard by institutions that, they say, have systematically ignored them.
