This Saturday, thousands of Irish people flooded the streets of Dublin, shouting «Ireland is Full». According to reports. Broadcasting , The demonstration expressed a deep-seated unease with the government's mass immigration policies.

The placards left no room for doubt: «Irish Lives Matter», «Ireland for the Irish» and «Ireland is Full». The protest was a wake-up call about a situation that has long since ceased to be a one-off crisis and has become a structural problem affecting the whole country.

The impact of years of mass immigration

In just twenty years, the foreign population in Ireland has doubled.. Today, one in five of the country's inhabitants was born abroad. This accelerated transformation has had serious consequences:

  • Inaccessible housing: According to Geowox, the average price of a house has risen to €360,000, an increase of 9.81% in just the past year. Young Irish people are finding it increasingly difficult to access housing.
  • Stagnant wagesThe dramatic increase in available labour has meant that wages have not kept pace with the rising cost of living.
  • Rising delinquencyIn 2023, a brutal attack by an immigrant on three children triggered serious riots in Dublin. It is not an isolated case: many Irish people associate the rise in immigration with increased insecurity.

The impact of years of mass immigration

Despite the evident unrest, The Irish government continues with its open policies.. A survey by Amárach Research confirms the disconnect: 80% of the Irish consider that immigration has been “too high”.”, but a 61% does not trust that the executive has any intention of rectifying.

The popular opposition has found supporters such as Conor McGregor, the MMA champion, who already has announced his intention to stand in the presidential election with immigration as a central issue. McGregor called for «unity, pride and respect» and accused the government of «betraying» the Irish people.
