The association SOS BDN, dedicated to caring for street cats, denounces on its social media that some illegal squatters have destroyed a cat colony on a plot of land at Passatge Peius Gener in the La Salut neighbourhood. They have erected shacks and intend to stay and live there.
The squatters have damaged the colony's facilities, are behaving violently and now the volunteers cannot feed the cats. The situation has left animal welfare advocates feeling utterly powerless, as they fear for the cats' safety and welfare. At present, the cats are terrified and the volunteers can barely see them.
Situation reported
The landowners and volunteers have reported the situation to the Mossos d'Esquadra, the Urban Guard and even the mayor.
However, the authorities have reported that they cannot evict the occupants without a court order. They say the legal process could drag on for years.
