«"At nine years old she is a woman," says an imam in Italy on camera

A hidden camera investigation in Brescia shows a spiritual leader claiming that marrying a 9-year-old girl is right because "she's a woman.".

Reporters del programa de televisió italià Fuori dal Coro van anar amb càmeres ocultes a mesquites fent-se passar per persones interessades a convertir-se a l’islam o a integrar-se a la comunitat. L’objectiu era simple: preguntar als imams i als fidels quina edat consideren adequada per al matrimoni d’una noia segons la seva interpretació de l’islam. Les respostes es van produir amb total naturalitat.

«Una nena ha de ser jove. Si els pares hi estan d’acord, es pot casar»

Diversos imams i membres de centres culturals islàmics —que en la pràctica funcionen com a mesquites— van afirmar que la pubertat o la primera menstruació marquen l’entrada a la vida adulta. Les declaracions es produeixen amb total normalitat. «Després de nou anys, després de deu anys, després de tretze anys, ja és adulta. Es pot casar; és una tradició», afirma un membre de la comunitat. Un altre ho resumeix així: «Una nena ha de ser jove. L’islam diu que si els pares són feliços, el pare i la mare són feliços, tots dos hi estan d’acord».

En una de les escenes més explícites, un imam assegura: «Als 9 anys, és una dona; et pots casar amb ella». D’altres fins i tot ofereixen orientacions pràctiques: «Si t’has casat amb una nena de 13 anys, molt bé, has fet una cosa molt bona. Aquest líder espiritual va més enllà i ofereix consells pràctics sobre com formalitzar el matrimoni i, més endavant, reagrupar la menor a Itàlia quan compleixi la majoria d’edat administrativa. ««Si t’has casat amb una nena de 13 anys, molt bé, has fet una cosa molt bona. I quan faci 18 anys, ell podrà aconseguir els papers per portar-la aquí. La seva dona és propietat seva», arriba a dir un entrevistat.

Només quan els periodistes revelen la presència de càmeres, alguns intenten matisar o negar el que acabaven d’afirmar. Però les gravacions ja recullen amb claredat un discurs que normalitza el matrimoni infantil i que xoca frontalment amb la legislació italiana i europea. I tot, perquè com diu un, «L’Alcorà ho diu. El nostre profeta es va casar amb una nena de 12 anys. Aleshores, per què no puc fer jo el mateix?». 

El presentador demana l’expulsió de l’imam en directe

La duresa de les imatges va provocar una reacció immediata al plató. Després d’emetre el reportatge, el presentador Mario Giordano no va amagar la indignació i va interpel·lar directament les autoritats italianes: «Estic sense paraules. Si aquest encara és un país civilitzat, demà al matí algú anirà a veure aquell imam de Brescia que diu que els matrimonis entre trenta-anys i noies de nou anys estan permesos i generosament el farà fora d’Itàlia», diu Giordano. El periodista va reclamar que l’Estat actuï davant discursos que, al seu parer, vulneren la llei i la protecció dels menors.
