Algú cala foc a una estàtua de la Verge durant la missa a la basílica de Guingamp (França)

La policia assegura que l’incendi va ser intencionat. Va interrompre la celebració del 8 de setembre i va provocar danys greus als vestits de la imatge.

El dilluns 8 de setembre de 2025, coincidint amb la festivitat de la Nativitat de la Verge Maria, una missa a la Basílica de Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours de Guingamp (Côtes-d’Armor, Bretanya) va quedar interrompuda quan algú va calar foc a les robes d’una estàtua de la Verge amb l’Infant.

Segons relaten els fidels, l’incendi es va declarar cap a les 18 h, en plena celebració. “S’ha interromput el culte perquè es va sentir algú cridar: ‘Foc, foc!’”, va explicar un dels testimonis presents a Le Télégramme. Malgrat l’ús d’un extintor, els danys a les vestimentes de la imatge van ser importants.

Dolor per un incendi intencionat

La policia i la brigada d’identificació criminal van acudir a recollir proves, empremtes i mostres d’ADN. Els investigadors descarten que fos un accident i parlen d’un acte intencionat. Una feligresa va declarar: “És insuportable veure això. Estic segura que ha estat intencionat. Per què fer una cosa així?”

La Verge vestia teles i brodats que van requerir milers d’hores de treball artesanal. Per a Mona Braz, presidenta de l’associació dels Amics del Patrimoni de Guingamp, aquesta destrucció va molt més enllà del religiós: representa un dany al patrimoni col·lectiu i afectiu de la ciutat. “Lligats a Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours hi ha tots, creients o no… és dolorós veure com s’incendien roba amb brodats elaborats durant moltíssimes hores”

Silenci polític

Al contrari d’altres actes de profanació —com els contraris a la comunitat musulmana, esdevinguts el mateix dia a París— aquest episodi no ha generat cap reacció institucional significativa ni a nivell regional ni nacional. Aquesta absència de veu pública ha estat percebuda com un doble patró d’indignació envers agressions a altres religions però no al catolicisme.

La basílica de Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours, elevat a basílica menor al segle XIX, exerceix una funció espiritual i patrimonial central a Guingamp. Les seves xarxes processonàries, actes litúrgics i el retaule de la Verge Negra en el porxo nord són part d’una tradició cultual i identitària profunda, catalogada com a Monument Històric.
