The British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) has cancelled a training course after the three speakers posted antisemitic messages on X, it has been revealed. The Telegraph (24/05/2025). The messages compared Israel to the Nazi regime and openly attacked Zionism with extremist language. One of them wrote «Pure joy» over an Iranian missile attack on Israel..
The event was due to be held on 15 May and featured three speakers of academic standing: Professor Ghazala Mir (University of Leeds), Dr Tarek Younis (Middlesex University) and Professor Ahmed Hankir (University of Cardiff).
Compilation of messages on social media
The plans changed when the NGO UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) He presented to the BABCP a compilation of messages published by the trainers.. The association opened an internal investigation and commissioned an independent review to assess the content shared on X (formerly Twitter). The director of the NGO, Caroline Turner, has welcomed the decision, stating: “These academics have proven themselves unfit to train anyone.”.
Among the most serious publications were messages from Professor Mir. accusing Israel of committing “genocide and apartheid” . In other posts, He spoke openly of “Zionist paymasters” and suggested that the Zionist movement had placed Israeli “agents” in the House of Lords. It was this teacher who felt «pure joy» at the missile attack on Israel.
For his part, Dr Younis stated: “Our healthcare institutions have a problem with Zionism.”and he asserted that “The job is not done until all the Zionists are expelled from our institutions and are humiliated, along with all the racists, until they disappear.”. He had also compared the Zionists to fascists in other publications and had participated in a legal campaign to try to overturn the ban on the terrorist group Hamas in the United Kingdom.
The three speakers have been contacted by British media. Professor Hankir has declined to comment, while both he, Professor Mir and Dr Younis deny having expressed antisemitic opinions.
