Moroccan man pulls knife and shouts 'Allahu Akbar' in Cannes
The man, about 20 years old, attacked some police officers who managed to subdue him with a Taser. No one was injured.

Youssef B. charged at some police officers shouting "Allah Akbar" behind a police station in Cannes. The officers quickly resolved the situation and arrested him.
According to the newspaper The Parisian, The man, a Moroccan national, was arrested on 10 March after breaking the wing mirror of a municipal police vehicle and being in France without authorisation.
In psychiatric custody
During his police custody, the man allegedly told the doctor that he had acted on the orders of a «voice». According to a police source, from his cell he shouted «God is great» and threatened to take his own life.
Due to his mental health condition and on medical advice, Youssef B. was involuntarily hospitalised, as he had not received the necessary treatment for his illness. As a result, his police custody has been lifted and his court hearing will be held «when his health permits», according to the Grasse prosecutor's office.
Recidivist and illegal in France
The man is on the police files for around ten minor offences such as property damage, burglary and theft, committed mainly in the Paris region.
In November 2023, the court in Meaux (Seine-et-Marne) sentenced him to six months in prison for «robbery with aggravation with two aggravating circumstances». One year later, in November 2024, the Créteil criminal court sentenced him to three months' imprisonment, suspended, for «group robbery«.
At an administrative level, the Val-d'Oise prefecture issued, on 21 November 2023, a Order requiring departure from French territory (OQTF) with a one-year re-entry ban, justified by the lack of space in an Administrative Retention Centre (ARC). Subsequently, on 10 March, Youssef B. was notified of a one-year extension of this re-entry ban.
