Rape culture in India: a deep-rooted problem
This incident highlights the problem of rape culture in India, where sexual violence against women is an endemic problem. According to 2021 data, more than 31,000 cases of rape were reported in the country, with an average of one woman being assaulted every 16 minutes. Furthermore, it is estimated that 77% of women who have experienced physical or sexual violence do not tell anyone, which makes it difficult to prosecute the perpetrators.
