TV3 under the Esquerra Republicana government produced a series of videos on its children's channel to explain Ramadan to the little ones.

In one of them, they visit the mosque where an activity is held with girls and boys of about ten years old. The children explain how they experience Ramadan and how they begin training to go without food or drink during daylight hours.

Although fasting is compulsory for adults, children are not required to observe it until they reach puberty. In the video, the children explain that they are beginning to train.

The report does not explain that in a free society where the criminal code does not require adherence to religious precepts there may be Muslims who wish to exercise their individual freedom.

Segregated girls and boys

At the visit to the mosque, boys and girls are seen in the same room but in different sections.

The second thing that catches the eye is Girls of about 10 years old wearing hijabs and niqabs.

Children's activities for Ramadan

In Catalonia, various cultural associations and Muslim communities organise events and activities for Muslim children during Ramadan. It is common to hold educational and recreational activities for the little ones, such as craft workshops, traditional story readings and cooking sessions for typical Ramadan dishes.

These activities help children understand the meaning of the holy month and feel part of the community.
