Des del mes de setembre, totes les escoles servides pel Réseau des cafétérias communautaires a la província de New Brunswick (Canadà) han passat a oferir només carn halal als seus menús. Segons el District scolaire francophone Sud (DSFS), la mesura té com a objectiu “assegurar un entorn inclusiu”. La informació va ser publicada per Radio-Canada l’11 de setembre de 2025.

La directora general del DSFS, Monique Boudreau, va afirmar per escrit que la carn halal “és comestible per tothom” i que això “no imposa cap pràctica religiosa” als estudiants no musulmans. El gestor del servei, Rick Nicholson, hi va afegir que, a més de respondre a demandes religioses, centralitzar el subministrament amb carn halal permet reduir costos i simplificar la logística. Segons l’expert Sylvain Charlebois, de la Universitat Dalhousie, la diferència només rau únicament en la manera com es sacrifiquen els animals.

Tots els implicats en la gestió estan d’acord perquè com diu Charlebois, «és més fàcil per als gerents comprar només un tipus de carn«. Afirmen que és millor centrar-se en intoleràncies i fer «halal sense gluten», «halal sense lactosa», etc.

Mesura contestada per famílies

La decisió d’imposar carn halal a tots els menús escolars no ha estat rebuda amb unanimitat. Diverses famílies han denunciat que el canvi s’ha fet sense informació prèvia ni debat públic, i que se’ls ha presentat el nou menú com un fet consumat.

Una de les veus més crítiques és la de Doriane Loucheux, mare de dues alumnes, que explica que va descobrir la novetat per casualitat en llegir el menú enviat a casa. En paraules seves, a Ràdio Canadà no només la va sorprendre el fons de la decisió, sinó sobretot la manca de transparència: “Potser m’he perdut una reunió, però crec realment que ningú no va ser advertit”.

Loucheux també rebutja el mètode de sacrifici religiós dels animals, que considera incompatible amb els seus valors. Segons ella, el sistema públic hauria d’oferir opcions neutres i universals, no vinculades a cap confessió. “Se’m priva de la llibertat de donar als meus fills un menú completament neutre”, va lamentar.

També hi ha pares que es mostren més indiferents. Clay Bastien va confessar que desconeix exactament què implica la carn halal, però espera que la decisió “s’hagi pres pel bé de la comunitat”. Per la seva banda, Marilyne Rousselle va dir que va notar la menció “halal” al menú, però no ho va percebre com un problema: “Si és per adaptar-se als necessitats de tothom, tant millor”.

Altres famílies, en canvi, ho veuen de manera diferent. El pare musulmà Mohammed Amine Abdelmoumni va qualificar el canvi de “benedicció” perquè li estalvia preparar la carmanyola: “És molt més fàcil. Amb l’estrès de cada dia, no sempre sabem què preparar per l’endemà. Amb halal disponible a l’escola, és un alleujament”.

Aquesta diversitat de reaccions mostra una fractura evident: mentre una part de la comunitat veu la mesura com un avanç en inclusió, una altra la considera una imposició encoberta que erosiona la neutralitat que hauria de regir en un servei públic.
