Una escola del Regne Unit canvia la Setmana Santa per la Setmana del Refugiat

La direcció de l’escola primària d’Eastleigh ha comunicat que la decisió respon a una voluntat de ser «més inclusius amb totes les creences».

La direcció de l’escola primària d’Eastleigh (sud d’Anglaterra) va comunicar als pares que abandonen les tradicions de Setmana Santa. La carta es va publicar a Facebook i la noticia ha saltat a alguns mitjans però sense gaire ressò.

No obstan això, l’anunci ha estat durament criticat en comentaris en línia, amb alguns que l’han qualificat de «vergonyós» i «caòtic», i amb temors que el Nadal sigui la pròxima celebració a ser eliminada.

«En no fer celebracions religioses específiques, pretenem crear un ambient més inclusiu que honori i respecti les creences de tots els nostres infants i les seves famílies..» – Directora de l’Escola de Primària d’Eastleigh.

La directora i autora de la carta, va explicar que la decisió es basa en la voluntat de l’escola —que és pública i sense afiliació religiosa— de respectar la diversitat i de crear un ambient més inclusiu.

Altres famílies, però, han recolzat la mesura, assegurant que vivim en una societat diversa i que l’escola ha de respectar totes les cultures i religions, no només la cristiana. Però el debat s’ha escalfat a les xarxes socials i als grups de WhatsApp dels pares: hi ha qui exigeix el retorn immediat de les celebracions i hi ha qui demana que es facin celebracions laiques o multi-religioses.

Enguany, no es farà ni la tradicional Cavalcada de Barrets de Pasqua ni el Servei de Pasqua. Aquestes s’havien consolidat com a moments emblemàtics per a l’alumnat i les famílies.

La Cavalcada de Barrets, una desfilada on els infants mostraven les seves creacions colorides i festives, era una explosió de creativitat i alegria que recorria els espais de l’escola amb somriures i aplaudiments.

El Servei de Pasqua, habitualment celebrat a prop de l’escola amb cants i reflexions sobre el significat de la festivitat, oferia una oportunitat de trobada i comunitat. L’assistència d’alumnes i famílies era voluntària.

Tradicionalment, la Setmana Santa és un moment destacat al calendari escolar anglès, especialment a les escoles primàries. Moltes escoles han organitzat durant dècades activitats relacionades amb la Pasqua, com ara la Cavalcada de Barrets de Pasqua, caçes d’ous, manualitats amb conillets i pollets i, en alguns casos, serveis religiosos a esglésies locals

Les noves tradicions

Tot i la cancel·lació d’aquesta tradició, la directora va explicar que l’escola celebrarà la Setmana dels Refugiats al juny, en el marc del seu compromís per convertir-se en una escola de santuari. Això vol dir dir rebre un reconeixement pel suport a infants refugiats per promoure els valors de la inclusió, l’acollida i la diversitat cultural.

Curiosament, al lloc web oficial de l’Escola Primària Norwood s’hi afirma que, al llarg del curs escolar, es marquen i se celebren conjuntament esdeveniments importants en la vida dels alumnes i de la comunitat educativa. El centre es presenta com un espai obert a la diversitat, i es fa constar explícitament que aquestes celebracions inclouen festivitats com l’Eid, el Diwali, el Nadal i la Pasqua.

Aquesta declaració ha generat més interrogants entre les famílies, que es pregunten com es pot justificar la cancel·lació de la celebració pasqual mentre es manté el reconeixement d’altres festivitats religioses. Per a molts, la decisió no sembla coherent amb els principis que la mateixa escola exposa públicament.
