Roma ha caigut: El Vaticà habilita sala d’oració musulmana a la biblioteca

«Ens van demanar una sala per resar i els l’hem donat, per suposat», va explicar el responsable de la Biblioteca Apostòlica Vaticana.

La Biblioteca Apostòlica Vaticana ha habilitat un espai per a les oracions diàries d’estudiosos musulmans que visitin les instal·lacions. La mesura ha sortit a la llum després de les declaracions de Giacomo Cardinali, viceprefecte de la Biblioteca, en una entrevista concedida a La Repubblica. Segons ha explicat, alguns erudits musulmans havien sol·licitat un lloc amb catifa per resar i aquesta petició ha estat atesa.

L’espai de pregària és dins la Biblioteca de la Ciutat del Vaticà. No és una mesquita gran sinó una sala petita amb una catifa orientada cap a la Meca.

“Som una biblioteca universal”

La Biblioteca Vaticana es va fundar a mitjans del segle XV. Sovint es considera el cor intel·lectual de l’Església Catòlica. Conserva una gran varietat de manuscrits i textos de totes les religions i cultures del món. El pare Cardinali ha afirmat que les seves col·leccions inclouen “corans increïblement antics”, així com obres jueves, etíops, àrabs i xineses. “Som una biblioteca universal”, ha explicat.

Cardinali ha destacat que la Biblioteca és universal i que guarda textos de moltes cultures i religions. Segons ell, aquest gest és una manera de facilitar el treball dels estudiosos que hi acudeixen.

Reaccions i debat mediàtic

La decisió d’habilitar una sala de pregària per a musulmans a la Biblioteca Vaticana ha provocat nombroses crítiques dins de sectors catòlics. Diversos mitjans conservadors han qualificat el gest de confús i inoportú, ja que consideren que una institució central de l’Església no hauria de cedir espais a una religió que nega elements fonamentals del cristianisme. El diaca britànic Nick Donnelly, citat en portals catòlics, va arribar a parlar de “traïció total a Crist” i d’un pas que posa en risc la identitat catòlica del Vaticà.

A les xarxes socials i en articles d’opinió també s’han multiplicat els comentaris crítics. Alguns insisteixen que no hi ha reciprocitat en països de majoria musulmana, on sovint els cristians no poden disposar d’espais per resar amb llibertat. Altres subratllen que el gest podria generar confusió entre els fidels i enviar un missatge d’excessiva concessió, en un moment en què milions de cristians pateixen persecució en territoris islàmics. Aquestes veus consideren que el Vaticà ha anat massa lluny en el diàleg interreligiós.
