Imam suspès per dir que «els que s’oposen al vel són infidels»

Afers Religiosos de Xipre del Nord suspèn l’imam per negar serveis funeraris a qui s’oposi al hijab.

A Xipre del Nord, el Departament d’Afers Religiosos ha suspès l’imam de Hamitköy, İbrahim Damar, després que aquest publiqués a les xarxes socials unes declaracions en què titllava d’“infidels” les persones que rebutgen el vel islàmic a les escoles i els negava el dret a funeral religiós. Segons recull el mitjà Bimanset, les seves paraules textuals van ser: «Ho dic clar: qui s’oposa al vel és un infidel. No es pot fer la pregària fúnebre d’un infidel».

La polèmica del hijab a l’escola

Les declaracions de Damar anaven dirigides contra el sindicat de professors KTOEÖS. Aquest sindicat defensa la laïcitat i l’educació pública sense influència religiosa. Diverses veus públiques van denunciar els seus comentaris de manera immediata.

Com a resultat, el Departament d’Afers Religiosos ha obert una investigació disciplinària i ha apartat İbrahim Damar de les seves funcions de manera temporal.

Una de les respostes més contundents va venir de Kudret Özersay, líder del Partit Popular (HP), que va denunciar l’imam davant del Departament d’Afers Religiosos, la Policia i la Fiscalia. Özersay va explicar que el seu partit havia presentat la denúncia amb fonament legal, ja que consideraven que “s’havia comès un delicte d’odi”. Va recordar que havien demanat una investigació disciplinària i havien traslladat el cas també a la Fiscalia i a la Policia. Segons ell, “no n’hi ha prou amb fer declaracions, cal passar a l’acció”.

Majoria islàmica pero secular

Xipre és una illa dividida al Mediterrani oriental. La part sud és de cultura grega i forma part de la Unió Europea. La part nord està controlada per la República Turca de Xipre del Nord (RTXN), un estat autoproclamat només reconegut per Turquia des del 1983.

A Xipre del Nord, la gran majoria de la població —al voltant del 99%— s’identifica com a musulmana sunnita. Ara bé, això no significa que la religió domini la vida pública. De fet, la societat turcoxipriota s’ha caracteritzat durant dècades per una interpretació moderada i secular de l’islam, molt influïda per la cultura laica de la Turquia republicana de Mustafà Kemal Atatürk.

Durant molts anys, l’educació pública, les institucions i fins i tot la pràctica religiosa es van mantenir en un marc laic i tolerant. Moltes dones musulmanes no portaven vel, i la religió es considerava una qüestió privada.

Erdogan exporta el seu model conservador

En els darrers temps, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan ha impulsat una política exterior que exporta el seu model d’islam conservador més enllà de Turquia. A Xipre del Nord, aquest enfocament s’ha traduït en una major presència institucional de la religió, amb la construcció de mesquites, l’enviament d’imams formats a Turquia i l’intent d’introduir valors religiosos a l’educació pública.

Aquesta religiositat més visible i dirigida des d’Ankara ha topat amb la resistència de sectors seculars dins la societat turcoxipriota. Un dels opositors més actius és el sindicat de professors KTOEÖS, que defensa una escola pública lliure d’imposicions religioses. El sindicat ha denunciat la presència d’imams a les escoles, l’ensenyament religiós obligatori i el que consideren una ingerència creixent del govern turc en el sistema educatiu del territori.
