“I'll cut your head off, I'll cut you to pieces”Those were the chilling words that a 25-year-old man of Chechen origin uttered at a woman while they were travelling on a tram through the centre of Linz. It was approximately 7:45 am on Friday 7 March, according to kronte.at.
The woman discreetly alerted the police and he was arrested on the spot. The man was unarmed, but he has been remanded in custody and transferred to the forensic unit at the Neuromed Campus in the city. Authorities say he suffers from mental health problems and had recently drawn attention by talking to himself in the street. He is currently under investigation for serious threats.
The woman, a resident of Linz, had already noticed him because he was muttering unintelligible words. But what began as strange behaviour quickly turned into a dangerous situation.“I will cut you all down. The time will come.”, the suspect would have said in a threatening tone.

When a group of schoolchildren boarded the tram, the man also allegedly threatened them: “I don't mind that you're creatures.”. Furthermore, according to witnesses, he uttered an even more disturbing sentence: “All non-Muslims will die by stabbing.”.
